Kjør! is an iOS racing game made for Statoil Fuel & Retail. The game is meant to be played by the kids in the backseat while the car is moving.
You don't necessarily have to be a kid to play, as long as you're not driving the car while playing the game. Drive! utilizes the GPS in the iOS device to calculate the current speed of the car. This is then used to animate the car in the game.
When driving you collect silver and golden coins. Silver coins are used to refill the gas on the car and can be lost when driving over a pothole, so you better drive good in order to afford a gas refil. If you don't manage to collect enough silver coins before the car runs out of gasoline, the game is over and you have to restart. Refilling of gas is a mini game where you are supposed to fit the nozzle of the gasoline hose in the gasoline tank of the car. You do this by tilting your device in whichever direction will get the nozzle in the tank.
Golden coins are more rare and can be redeemed at Statoil gas stations for things like ice cream, chocolate and soda. When you're nearby a Statoil gas station, the game will put up a sign along the road telling you how far it is to the next station. It works like a notification telling the player that they are nearby a place where they can redeem their golden coins.
The highscore's are calculated based on the distance driven, so in order to beat your little sister's highscore you have to be a better driver than her.
MediaFront is the agency who got the project from Statoil Fuel & Retail. I was hired to provide input on the game design process. I basically came up with ideas, helped MediaFront refine their ideas and wrote some documents. I also did some of the programming that was related to the distribution of silver/golden coins and potholes.
